Scholarships to Increase Access & Inclusion
JP Centre Yoga is committed to making the Boston yoga community more inclusive and, to that end, we offer two different types of scholarships:
1) Scholarship for People of Color
JP Centre Yoga partners with Yoga Diversity Initiative (YDI), a Boston-based organization with a strong mission “to make the practice of yoga more accessible to People of Color.” In concert with YDI, JPCY offers this scholarship to a person of color who is specifically interested in teaching yoga following completion of this training program. The recipient of the scholarship will be paired with a facilitator from Yoga Diversity Initiative for support before, during and after the training. This scholarship funds the full tuition of the JPCY teacher training program for one individual. Yoga Diversity Initiative provides 40% of the program’s tuition and JP Centre Yoga supplies the rest.
To apply, please refer to the Yoga Diversity Initiative website, linked here.
Applications dates for POC Scholarship for YTT 2020 will be announced shortly.
Scholarship Requirements:
- Have an existing regular yoga practice
- Be able to commit to all the dates of the training
- Be committed to teaching yoga locally after completing the training
Dates for accepting applications for 2019 TBD
2) Scholarships for Teachers Committed to Increasing Access
JP Centre Yoga believes that yoga should be accessible to all. Simultaneously, we understand that the way access to yoga currently exists in the United States is complex as is our role within that framework. We are interested in the practice of cultivating self awareness on the mat and off. One way we do this is by keeping our eyes open to our impact and our ears open to the ongoing conversation of how yoga functions within our own community and beyond. With this intent, JPCY is offering a scholarship to any individual who is interested in primarily teaching to underserved populations - those who may not be able to normally afford or access yoga.
If you would like to see more yoga programs in facilities and neighborhoods that have any number of barriers to access yoga, this scholarship and teacher training program could help you take a step toward that goal. How would you like to bring change by increasing access to yoga? If you have a vision, tell us about it in your application. We want to help you make it a reality!

Raising Funds for our Increased Access scholarships:
To help raise money for these Increased Access scholarships, JP Centre Yoga is selling Namaste pins at the front desk of the studio. All proceeds from these pin sales will go directly to this scholarship fund. If you would prefer not to purchase a pin, but would like to support this scholarship fund, you can also make a donation online.
Tuition for the JPCY Teacher Training program is $3100. We aim to raise $1550 via pin sales and donations that we will match dollar for dollar in order to fund one full scholarship for an individual’s whole tuition. But that’s not all! We also aim to raise an additional $775 that we will also match dollar for dollar to fund one partial scholarship that will pay for half of an individual’s program tuition. In total, we aim to raise $2325. Any additional funds raised will roll over toward future training scholarship funds.
